famo courses

Expand your skills in the certification and diploma programme, or attend a FAMO-based course or event. Through our educational offerings, you will acquire fascia-focused movement expertise – well-founded, practice-oriented, and versatile.

Prerequisite

All our courses build on a foundation of fundamental anatomy and movement knowledge; therefore, participation requires certification in a field related to movement, health, bodywork, or therapy.

Certification & Diploma Programme

Each module of the FAMO Fascia Movement education programme is self-contained, with clearly defined content and learning outcomes, making each course thematically comprehensive. Within the programme's framework, the modules build on one another, providing a strong knowledge base and excellent practical skills.

4 modules form the FAMO certification cluster.

The consecutive FAMO diploma pathway comprises 3 modules plus 1 a teaching assessment.

On this website you will find all the courses taught by me, Kath, but don’t forget to check out the art of motion website for courses with my amazing colleagues if these dates/locations don’t work for you.

  • Anatomy Trains in Motion

Anatomy Trains in Motion is a nuanced course for movement, health, and bodywork professionals who appreciate integral anatomy and body-minded exercise applications that relate to real-life in all of its dimensions.

  • FAMO Focus

In FAMO Focus, our attention is on 12 fascial movement qualities. You will explore what they are, why they matter, and how you can utilise them to increase physical health and functionality, along with psycho-emotional wellbeing, and even interpersonal bonds, elevating the quality of life in a sustainable way.

  • famo practice 1

The three FAMO Practice courses examine the details of FAMO exercises to refine your own movement execution and prepare you to teach your clients. This first FAMO Practice module offers a rich selection of experience-proven repertoire that utilise and benefit all 12 fascial movement qualities (FAMO Focus) and 12 myofascial meridians (Anatomy Trains in Motion).

  • famo body reading & rebalancing

The FAMO Body Reading & Rebalancing course gives the complex skill of assessing postural and movement patterns, recognising myofascial implications, and creating coherent exercise programs a contained framework. This approach fosters your increased competency and confident application in one-on-one sessions and in group classes.

  • famo practice 2

This second FAMO Practice module takes multidimensionality to another level! The focus on spiralling movements—especially the ribcage and spine—naturally changes how the 12 fascial movement qualities (FAMO Focus) are used and benefitted.

  • famo back health

Functional Myofascial Anatomy, Pain & Health-Oriented Teaching.

This Back Health course offers a science-informed approach with practical tools designed to create positive changes for individuals suffering from pain—or to help prevent it before it starts.

anatomy trains in motion

  • In a unique way, Anatomy Trains in Motion explains how these myofascial meridians shape postural patterns, contribute to multidimensional movement, and influence feeling.

By the end of the course, you will understand the anatomical makeup of the myofascial meridians, their primary functions in posture and movement, and their sensory qualities. With this knowledge, you can use the Anatomy Trains map to navigate the complexities of the body in stillness and motion with greater clarity and purpose.

If you want to understand the myofascial meridians from a functional perspective and use the Anatomy Trains body map holistically, this course is for you.

  • By participating in this course, you will:

    • Learn how to use the myofascial meridian body map as a tool to navigate the complexity of the body in stillness and motion with greater clarity

    • Meet the Anatomy Trains rules, including the 7 roundhouses of Anatomy Trains in Motion

    • Know the 12 myofascial meridians and experience them with focused awareness in motion

    • Discuss and experience the individual muscles and fascial structures of the myofascial meridians as well as their structural and functional relationships

    • Understand and experience overall postural and movement functions of the myofascial meridians

    • Explore sensory qualities of the myofascial meridians and their responsiveness to feeling states

    • Discover how myofascial meridians contribute to walking with myofascial ease

  • In Anatomy Trains in Motion, the integral anatomy of the myofascial meridians is explained in interactive lectures and experienced through body-minded movement applications. For clear comprehension of the structural and functional aspects, muscles and fascial structures are discussed individually and as part of the myofascial meridians.

To further connect anatomy and function, we introduce science-informed fascial movement qualities for you to embody with deliberate exercise examples throughout the course. And, to connect the course content to real life applications, the theme, walking with myofascial ease is woven into the 3 days, both in theory and practice.

FAMO Practice 1 : Multidimensional Whole-Body Movement By Karin Gurtner

FAMO body reading & rebalancing

  • The posture-based movement program addresses both short-term goals, such as pain reduction, enhanced wellbeing, and an energy boost, as well as long-term objectives, including postural balance, sustainable movement functionality, and vitality. The course content is directly applicable in one-on-one settings and highly valuable for group lessons.

Upon completing the course, you will have trained your eyes and mind to evaluate the body’s geometry, recognise common myo-fascial-skeletal patterns, and create coherent posture-based movement programs. Chances are, you will also gain new insights into your own body alignment.

  • By participating in this course, you will:

    • Identify the essential attributes of a successful body reader and the individual being read

    • Understand the value and significance of 3 fascial movement qualities—tensional strength, responsiveness, and kinaesthesia—within the specific context of Body Reading

    • Learn the 7-step Body Reading process

    • Recognize 6 common postural patterns: 4 relating to the pelvis and spine, 1 focusing on ribcage volume, and 1 on the shoulders, arms, and hands.

    • Learn posture-based movement strategies for all 6 patterns using 14 carefully selected FAMO Practice 1 exercises

    • Understand proprioceptive and interoceptive criteria when using these exercises for movement assessment or as part of a posture-based movement program

    • Gain new insights into your own body alignment

  • The course begins by exploring the attributes of a successful body reader and the individual being read, as well as the value of both outer and inner self-perception. We will also revisit 3 fascial movement qualities (FAMO Focus) that are essential for integral body reading and strategizing.

From there, we discuss the 7-step process of Body Reading. You will learn and practice assessing the body’s structural relationships, evaluating the alignment of bones relative to each other and their effects on the involved muscles and fascia. To maintain focus, we zoom in on 6 common postural patterns: the first 4 address the most regularly seen pelvic and spinal imbalances and their influence on the extremities and head, the fifth focuses on ribcage volume, and the sixth on the shoulders, arms, and hands.

To aid in creating posture-based movement programs, a selection of 14 FAMO Practice 1 exercises is provided and explained in the context of body reading. Specific exercises are allocated to the 6 patterns and classified as “recommended,” “suitable,” and “suitable when adapted.” At the same time, the exercises can be used as assessment tools themselves. For each exercise, proprioceptive (coordination) and interoceptive (feeling) criteria are discussed.

A practical set of FAMO Body Reading & Rebalancing evaluation forms is provided to support real-life implementation.

  • FAMO Body Reading & Rebalancing is a self-contained course and also a module within the FAMO certification program. It can be attended after completing FAMO Practice 1.

Prerequisite : participants must have attended Anatomy Trains in Motion, FAMO Focus & FAMO Practice 1 before this course.

FAMO Body Reading & Rebalancing is the final step to becoming a certified FAMO Fascia Movement Teacher!

You will receive your certificate within one month of completing the FAMO Body Reading & Rebalancing course.
