What is famo?
FAMO Fascia Movement is a method of physical training that centres around intentionally training fascia. Fascia is a broad term (more about this coming soon) but for clarity I’m referring to the widely accepted functional definitely, meaning fascia is a bodywide network of interconnected soft, collagenous tissue that is form-giving, force-communicating and self-regulating.
The movement method of FAMO is the creation of Karin Gurtner at art of motion and it is designed to be used both as a rich, comprehensive practice in it’s own right OR blended with other modalities in a complimentary way. It’s practiced on a mat, ideally barefoot with a few minimal props such as massage balls.
As a concept, FAMO is located within the framework of Resource-Oriented Integrative Movement. It is a term Karin Gurtner created with the intention to include and invite all movement practices that are health-centred and aimed at holistic functionality and wellbeing.
What sets FAMO apart are its 6 guiding principles and a clearly defined triad encompassing 12 fascial movement qualities, 12 training techniques, and 12 practice aims. The emphasis on fascial movement qualities gives FAMO its unique dimension while grounding it in scientific principles and practical experience.
